As humans, we must realise that offenses must abound among us but we must realize that there are some offenses that are very painful and hurtful and it becomes very hard for the offended to forgive the offender. Some persons have even vowed never to forgive the offenses that were done to them because of the trauma and shock they had to go through as a result of these offenses.

Imagine that a young girl was raped by his father at a tender age of seven and caused this young girl a lot of havoc amid emotional trauma. She trusted him but he disappointed her and confirmed himself rather to be a wolf in sheep clothing. This was also the situation with the popular international female gospel minister called Joyce Meyer.

She hated her father so much that at every thought of him, she was continuously grieved. She quickly remembered how many times she was molested by her father; she couldn’t forgive her father until his death. However, when God wanted to use her to bless others through the preaching of the gospel, he told her to forgive her father as the first criteria for her being chosen.

Peradventure, you have been a victim of such hurtful experiences, from someone stealing your joy, taking your property, wife, house, land, money etc, you can still forge ahead with your life. Just let it go! Please, pray with these verses of scripture for God to grant you the grace to forgive that person that has offended you.

Matthew 6:12 says, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Matthew 6:14-15 also says, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: but if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Truly, I have been hurt by my offender (mention his name); I have been wounded to the very core of my being but today, I realise from your word that I need to forgive so that I can be forgiven as well. In truth, I have also offended others in thoughts, words and deeds and as a result, I need forgiveness from you as well thus, I ask for grace to forgive my offenders this very day in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Jesus said unto him, I say not unto thee, until seven times: but, until seventy times seven. Also, Matthew 18:35 says, So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if you from your hearts forgive not everyone his brother their trespasses.

Prayer Point: Father! I am realizing that I need to forgive anyone that sinned against me for up to 490 times. I know this is hard but you cannot ask me to do what I cannot do thus, grant me this ability. I myself cannot remember how many times you have forgiven my trespasses and transgression thus, help me to forgive my offender (mention his or her name) in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Isaiah 43:11 says, I, even I, am he that blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and will not remember your sins.

Prayer Point: My Father! My God!! Because you have forgiven my sins and have not remembered my transgressions, I prayer therefore, that you will help me today to forgive everyone that has wronged me. I refuse the power of unforgiveness, I reject its hold over me, I choose deliberately to forgive every hurt, pain and sorrow caused me by anyone. I have forgiven all in Jesus Name, Amen.

John 3:16-17 says, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Prayer Point: Thank you Father for your love towards me, that even while I was yet in Sin, you sent your only begotten Son to die for my sins and by his death, I was made right with you. Therefore, I pray that you help me to love my offenders enough to forgive them of whatever transgression or wrong they may have committed towards me. For the sake of your love demonstrated through your son Jesus, may I also forgive in love, all those that offended and will offend me in Jesus Name, Amen.

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 says, Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given us the ministry of reconciliation.

Prayer Point: Lord! I recognize that you have forgiven me and given me a ministry of reconciling others to you. How can it be that I will be living in jealousy, envy, hatred and unforgiveness toward my offenders? Please, help me to be an example in words and in deeds as I seek to reconcile others to you. May I consider my neighbour as myself never to offend or treat them badly in Jesus Name, Amen.

If you have prayed with these verses of Scripture, be reassured that God has taken over your struggles, taken over your unforgiving attitude and has lifted off all your burdens. Remember that he is a burden lifter and will ensure that you will experience a peace that only comes with knowing that you are forgiven of God. It is this knowledge that makes you realize how that you also need to forgive others as well.

Always remember this anonymous quote I saw somewhere as an anchor for your soul. It says that, Unforgiveness does a great harm to the vessel in which it is stored than the object in which it is poured. Thus, let it go and God will restore you in Jesus Name, Amen.
