eet my expectations at work, make sure dinner is on the table each night (well, most nights!), and make time to spend with family and friends. According to my not-so-humble opinion, I can handle these things on my own. I spend little time thinking or praying about them. This isn’t necessarily good, mind you, but there are parts of my life I feel like I can handle. Maybe you feel that way, too.

But then bigger problems enter my life and I am knocked over. Not in an innocuous, frazzled way. More like an overwhelming way that feels like the wind has been knocked out of me. It feels like I have two options on how to handle these problems.

I could give up in some way. For me, that includes acting as if there is no problem; coping my way through a problem by distracting myself in some way; or refusing to think about it in the hopes that the problem will just go away. I have tried all of these. They don’t work.

The other option is to turn to God, the omnipresent, merciful, Lord of my life, for both these huge problems and everyday life.

Here are some verses to read when you need a reminder that the Lord is there for us in situations big and small.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.” Isaiah 40:28 NIV

Check: Prayer For God’s Direction

“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 NASB

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.” Matthew 10:29-30 ESV

My friend, we sometimes treat God like an emergency line. And make no mistake, He does hear our cries for help! But how much better would life be if you invested your time, heart, and desires into a relationship with the Creator of the Universe? Turn to Him today with what is on your heart. He cares!
